Everest Hornbein 2010

Edmond Joyeusaz, Gianluca Marra and Francesco Civra Dano, “Guide Alpine” – the Mountain Guides – of Courmayeur will try climbing the Everest North Wall, ascending the Hornbein Couloir and also descending from the summit on skis –  for the first time ever in mountaineering history.

The ascent will therefore be done “alpine style”, i.e. without the aid of fixed ropes and supplemental oxygen, in order to climb in an environmentally friendly manner.

At the end of their expedition all the fixed ropes present on the upward route will be removed. On their way down, they will newly climb back up to the Base Camp via the “normal” Tibetan route to clear the moraine of materials abandoned during decades of ascent attempts.
